Those Willows are Portland, Oregon-based and Detroit, Michigan-bred duo, Jack Wells and Mel Tarter. The vocally driven pair combined forces in 2007 to create a sound of their own. With haunting harmonies and beautiful melodies their high-energy performances incorporate indie, folk, jazz, pop, rock and soul to entertain audiences of all ages and inclinations. Those Willows successfully released their first full-length album, Rivertown, in February 2012 and in October 2013 they released a 5 song EP titled Existential Folks. The pair’s songs have been heard on television shows in the United States and Europe, including: The UK’s “Skins,” “Lying Games” (ABC Family), and reality shows on MTV, VH-1 and Bravo. The band has performed across Michigan at festivals such as Detroit’s Motown Winter Blast, Royal Oak’s Arts, Beats and Eats and Lansing’s Festival of the Sun. Recently, Those Willows relocated to Portland, Oregon to embrace the music culture of the West coast. They’ve humbly accepted comparisons to Simon and Garfunkel, Fleet Foxes, Mamas and the Papas and She and Him, but you’ll have to give them a listen and decide for yourself.
